Gourmia GVS435 Introduction

A good vacuum sealer has many uses. Take the Gourmia GVS435 for instance. If it is as powerful as the manufacturer portrays it to be, you can use it to do a lot more than just preserve your veggies and meat. But first, a little intro on the Gourmia GVS435.

Gourmia’s latest vacuum sealer is compact and built from stainless steel. It looks petite but promises to pack a punch. Gourmia says that the GVS435 has a powerful pump motor, which can operate at normal and lower pressure levels, without making a ruckus. It is also versatile with a total of 8 functions that you can access with the use of buttons. These buttons control everything from the kind of food you seal to the pressure level and the seal function. Moreover, every button has a LED indicator light, so you never go wrong with your selection.

The Gourmia GVS345 ships with an assortment of rolls and bags plus a canister, wine stopper and marinator bowl as freebies. Please note, this vacuum sealer does not have a built-in storage space for a vacuum roll and the cutter is more a knife accessory.

Our Gourmia GVS435 Review

In a world dominated by FoodSaver and VacMaster, it is refreshing to see new entrants with equally compelling and unique offerings. The Gourmia GVS435 is one of the many new entrants that have managed to gather a good fan following. We just had to get our hands on it and find out what all the hoopla was all about. When unboxing this machine, we were surprised to see just how compact it is and the fact that it is entirely made from stainless steel. Well, the casing is stainless steel but there is a lot of plastic inside.

The control panel is straightforward and intuitive. There are choices at every step. First, decide what kind of food you plan on preserving. Is it moist or dry? Then take a decision on the pressure. Does your preparation need care or will standard pressure do? And finally, will you just be sealing or vacuum sealing? Once you have these options selected, take a final look at all the LED indicator lights and start the process.

But before you can begin sealing, you first need to place your bag with ingredients inside the sealer. To do that, you have to release the top panel and carefully position the bag beyond the seal strip and push down hard on the top panel until you hear an audible click. That’s your cue to set the control panel up.

Operating the Gourmia GSV435 is a straightforward process. Prepare your bags, add the ingredients, lock it inside the machine and choose your options. However, in the event you decide to adjust the pressure and time manually, you can abort an operation midway using the Stop button. And then with the pulse button, you can control just how long to vacuum before you manually seal. Thanks to the manual locking mechanism, the unit can do a second seal on top of the first. Double sealing is handy when working with liquid food packets.

A word of advice if in case you plan on double sealing liquid stuff, the design of this vacuum sealer, unfortunately, leaks juices inside the machine. We tried using longer bags and still had some juice percolating near the heat seal bar. Unfortunately, there is no workaround, so we have to suggest sticking with dry or moist items but nothing that has a lot of liquid in it. Marinades are fine but nothing else if you want your vacuum sealer to serve you well beyond a couple of years at least.

Possibly the biggest advantage of the Gourmia GVS435 is the ability to control the pressure. You can opt for low pressure with delicate items such as cookies, bread sticks, and the likes. For everything else, the regular pressure mode will work fine. However, in the event you need more pressure, you don’t have that option. Instead, you can use the pulse mode and run the vacuum process for longer than usual, until you are satisfied with the outcome. Just remember to seal the bag before you unlatch the unit manually.

Gourmia has a canister mode and a hose attachment, but we haven’t yet tested it. From what we read though, it works with any canister or jar designed for vacuum sealing. In fact, looking at the free bags and rolls that come as part of this vacuum sealer, we believe generic bags will work best with this machine. You need not spend on expensive FoodSaver bags. Any vacuum sealing bag will do as long as it fits in the machine.
