Black & Decker CTO6335S Introduction

The first electric toaster was invented in Scotland as long ago as 1893. A toaster oven from today is an evolution of that first toaster, and in addition to all the other cooking tasks that a toaster oven performs – they can still toast bread. As well as being able to toast the Black & Decker CTO6335S is also a convection oven that circulates the hot air to give a more even cooking result in a shorter time, a broiler, a pizza oven and a food warmer.

The Black & Decker CTO6335S it is a relatively small oven when compared to a conventional oven. The Black & Decker CTO6335S only has a footprint of 22.8 inches x 13.4 inches but it can still fit a 12 inch diameter pizza in it. It manages this through having a curve at the back of the oven to accommodate the added diameter. As just mentioned, the Black & Decker CTO6335S is much smaller than a conventional oven. This means that it can heat up faster, and the convection setting allows it to cook quicker than a non-convection oven. With a convection oven you can usually cook at a lower temperature as the heat is spread more evenly.

This all adds up to faster cooking but less electricity cost. And, on a hot day, you don’t add to the heat in the kitchen significantly like you would if using a standard oven.  The Black & Decker CTO6335S also benefits from a number of preset programs that will heat the oven according to what is being cooked. In addition to a bake, broil, toast and bagel setting there are special programs for cooking cookies, frozen food, pizza and potatoes.

The special programs have preset cooking time and temperatures but these can be adjusted to suit. Black & Decker are the top selling brand for toaster ovens in the US and the CTO6335S is one of their bestselling models.

Our Black & Decker CTO6335S Review

The Black & Decker CTO6335S measures 22.8 inches wide x 13.4 inches deep and is 15.5 inches high. It weighs just under 16 lbs. the internal dimensions are 14 inches x 11 inches x 5 ¼ inches. Even though the Black & Decker CTO6335S is less than 13 ½ deep (11 inches internally) it can still take a 12 inch pizza. It manages this by there being a curved recess at the back of the oven. All though the Black & Decker CTO6335S can cook a 12 inch pizza, the wire rack that is supplied does not extend in to the recess so a tray is needed to support the back edge to prevent it drooping over and dripping the contents. Some 12 inch pizza trays will fit in the oven but others will not. This is due to the lip on the edge of the trays so be aware of that.

In addition to cooking pizzas, it will toast, broil and bake. There are a number of preset programs for automatically setting the heat and timer on the Black & Decker CTO6335S. The presets include a cookie cooking function, one for frozen snacks, baked potatoes, a baking setting and one for broiling. The toaster and bagel functions have up and down buttons to either have your toast or bagel lighter or darker than the factory setting. The difference between the toast and bagel setting is that while the toast is browned evenly on both sides, the bagel is toasted on the top and warmed on the bottom side.

When using the bake function the timer can be set for any time up to 120 minutes and the convection fan can be used on this setting. When using the convection oven the heat and the baking time should be reduced. The Black & Decker CTO6335S has a simple button which will alter the temperature settings between Fahrenheit and centigrade which save a lot of converting if you have recipes with either scale.

The Black & Decker CTO6335S comes complete with a baking try that also doubles as a drip tray, a broiling tray and a rack with off-sets that allow it to be placed it the best position for what you happen to be cooking at the time. As a rule, and there are some exceptions, toaster ovens are much smaller than conventional ovens, this gives them advantages when it comes to cooking. Firstly the volume to be pre-heated is much smaller and therefore they pre-heat much quicker.

They also cook faster than most conventional ovens. This means that the amount of electricity is considerably less as is the cost to run. One area where the Black & Decker CTO6335S does fall down is in the LCD display screen. It is not back lit so you need an external light source to be able to see it clearly.  Unlike many other makes of toaster ovens, which have a 1 year warranty, the Black & Decker CTO6335S comes with a 2 year limited Black & Decker warranty.
