KitchenAid KSM75WH Introduction

The KitchenAid KSM75WH is one of the smaller models in the KitchenAid range of tilt head stand mixers, but it is still large enough to more than cope with most of the demands of a domestic kitchen. Just because it is less expensive than other KitchenAid tilt head stand mixers does not mean that corners have been cut to achieve the lower price. The only difference is that the KitchenAid KSM75WH is a scaled down version, measuring 14.1 x 8.7 x 13.9 inches and weighing in at 15 lbs, with a slightly lower capacity mixing bowl, 4.5 quarts as compared to the KitchenAid Artisan range with a 5 quart capacity.

KitchenAid seem to measure the capacity of their mixers in dozens of cookies, but to give a comparison the larger Artisan range has a capacity of 9 dozen compared to 6.75 dozen for the KitchenAid KSM75WH. As a result the motor does not need to be as large so the KitchenAid KSM75WH has a slightly less powerful one – 275 watts on the KitchenAid KSM75WH compared to a 325 watt motor fitted on the Artisan range.

The 275 watt motor still has the range of speed and control starting with the equivalent of a slow hand mixing speed right up to a high speed whisk. The KitchenAid KSM75WH is only available in white, which is a timeless color that fits in with any kitchen décor, whereas the Artisan range offers a choice of over 20 colors!

Despite the smaller size (and the lack of color choice) the KitchenAid KSM75WH still has the power take off point which enables it to have up to 15 different accessories attached to make the KitchenAid KSM75WH a truly multi-purpose kitchen appliance. Adding the optional extra accessories means that the KitchenAid KSM75WH can become a variety of powered kitchen appliances.

Our KitchenAid KSM75WH Review

The KitchenAid KSM75WH is available in both standard packaging and hassle free packaging. In the hassle free packaging it is securely packed but it comes with a lot less of the additional packaging that is just to show the mixer off and means more trash to dispose of when it is unpacked. The styling of the KitchenAid KSM75WH is very retro, it would not look out of place in a kitchen of 40 years ago, but it also fits in with a modern styled kitchen. While the styling is the first thing that one notices about the KitchenAid KSM75WH lifting out of the box, it feels a solid well-made piece of kitchen equipment.

The KitchenAid KSM75WH is advertised as having a ‘59 point planetary action’ when mixing. What this means in plain English is that as the mixer revolves the mixing attachment has 59 pints of contact for every revolution, ensuring that the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Although the KitchenAid KSM75WH weighs only 15 lbs. the balance of the rotation and the solidity of the mixer ensures that it remains stable – no juddering about as it mixes. The mixer comes with a burnished metal dough hook, a flat nylon beater and a 6 wire whipping attachment. The mixing bowl is stainless steel.

One item that comes standard with some of the KitchenAid range of tilt stand mixers is a pouring shield to aid the easy adding of ingredients as the mixer is operating. With the KSM75WH it is an optional extra that you need to buy separately. On the KitchenAid KSM75WH there is a power hub that utilizes the motor of the mixer to operate a range of optional add on tools. The optional tools include a range of pasta extruders in various sizes plus there is an ice cream, sorbet and other frozen desserts mixer, a meat grinder (with a variety of extra options to make fruit juices and sauces and a very clever ravioli maker that fills, seals and pinches the ravioli with your selected fillings.

The most popular option though is a flex edge beater that scrapes the side of the bowl as it beats with the flexible edge. The various accessories though can becomes expensive especially when bought from the manufacturer, so it is certainly worth shopping around for them to get considerable discounts. However, what is the most important consideration is how effective the KitchenAid KSM75WH actually is at mixing and whisking. The problem being with a mixer is that, even though the ingredients are mixed perfectly the end result is dependent on many other influences such as the quality of the ingredients, the uniformity of the heat in the oven, the accuracy of the temperature and the time allowed to cook.

Suffice it to say the most telling critics are the people who own a KitchenAid KSM75WH. Of those who have given any feedback 81% rate the mixer as 5 out of 5 with a further 11% giving it 4 out of 5. On Amazon it is one of the bestselling stand mixers.

Our Final Conclusion For The KitchenAid KSM75WH

KitchenAid produced their first stand mixer in 1919, so have a pedigree of almost 100 years of designing and making stand mixers so it is only to be expected that their mixers should be a first class product. The KSM75WH lives up to that expectation.

The KitchenAid KSM75WH is a well-engineered, powerful yet compact example of a very good tilt head stand mixer. The power from the 275 watt motor is transmitted smoothly through the speed controller to deliver a choice of 10 speeds, ranging from a beating action similar to hand beating right up to a high speed for whisking to ensure the maximum amount of air can be incorporated in the mix to ensure a light fluffiness to the end product. With the power hub, the KitchenAid KSM75WH can be converted in to a highly versatile food processing station, making anything from ice cream, to ground meat, to smooth fruit juices and purees.

While some at first sight think the styling is a little dated, the retro look will sit well in any kitchen, no matter how modern it may be. KitchenAid are confident enough in the efficiency and quality of the KitchenAid KSM75WH that they offer a 1 year no quibble warranty on the mixer.
