Omega J8005 Summary

4.5 out of 5

The Omega J8005 is a strong market contender, fitting in nicely in terms of affordability – whilst packing a powerful motor. Having received consistently high consumer reviews across the board, we were rather intrigued to see whether the Omega J8005 lived up to all it claimed, and whether this small model was still able to grind tough foods.

Omega J8005 Introduction

Of all the types of juicers used for home and light commercial use, the slow masticating types are the most efficient. Their slower speed does not produce heat that can damage nutrients, enzymes and vitamins. They do not produce a froth on the juice which helps prevent oxidization meaning that the juice will last longer, up to 3 days in the refrigerator. In addition masticating juicers can extract far more juice for a given quantity of fruit or vegetables.

Centrifugal or rotating juicers also cannot process tough green leafy vegetables or wheat grass. If you want to juice any of these products, a masticating juicer is needed. The masticating juicers are generally far quieter to operate than other juicer, very handy when you are preparing large batches of juice in one go. One of the leading brands in masticating juicers and their J8005 is a very good example of their product range.

With a powerful geared motor driving an auger, the fruit or vegetables are drawn into the Omega J8005 and crushed to remove the maximum amount of juice from the product. So much juice is removed that the pulp, which is automatically ejected, ends up being very dry, especially when compared to pulp left over from most of the alternative methods used for home juicing. The Omega J8005 Nutrition Center is, however, far much more than just a juicer, the masticating system combined with the powerful geared motor can be used for processing items like homemade peanut butter, grinding coffee, making ground meat and chopping herbs, or even extruding a variety of pasta styles for example.

The Omega J8005 is a well-built quality juicer that is designed to be last for many years to come, so much so that Omega offer a 10 year warranty on the Omega J8005.

Our Omega J8005 Review

The first thought that hits you when you receive your Omega J8005 Nutrition Center is that it is in ‘frustration free’ packaging, it is out of the box and ready to use in a moment. A big plus to start off with. As soon as you pick up the Omega J8005 it feels a solid well-built kitchen appliance that will last, Omega certainly think it will last because they give the J8005 a 10 year warranty. Even though the Omega J8005 is a strong and powerful kitchen appliance it is very compact, measuring only 14.5 x 6.5 x 15.5 inches and weighing only 13 lbs.

Omega J8005 Masticating Juicer

The masticating system used on the Omega J8005 is driven by a geared electric motor which delivers an equivalent torque of 2 horse power at 80 rpm, this drives the auger which draws the fruit or vegetables in and crushes them extracting the juice as it turns. There is a two stage filtration system to remove any pulp, which is then automatically ejected, leaving only fresh clean juice behind. That is the mechanical side, what about the reason people buy juicers in the first place, how well is it at producing juice in practice?

One little issue that is apparent is that the feed tube is not very big, so some fruit or vegetables to be juiced will need to be cut to size first, but this only takes seconds and it can be chopped and fed in continuously so it is not a real problem. As would only be expected the Omega J8005 does a very good job of juicing everyday fruits and vegetables like oranges and carrots effortlessly. The juice produced was still with no froth and at room temperature.

For those who have used a centrifugal or rotating juice extractor in the past will probably be very surprised at how dry the ejected pulp is. So much juice has been extracted that there is hardly any moisture left in the waste pulp. That was the easy test out of the way, how does it cope with tough leafy vegetables? Kale was suggested as something that would put the Omega J8005 to a tough test. It is actually surprising when you see how much juice is produced by something looks as it would produce hardly anything. The Omega J8005 did not even sound as if the kale was a real test it just processed it efficiently and without any apparent effort. As a juicer the performance is excellent.

It can also produce large batches in one go as the Omega J8005 does not need to keep stopping to cool down or to have the waste pulp cleaned out. It was noted that with some of the softer fruits that the pulp was not cleared out very well at the end of the processing, but the juicer was being cleaned then so this was not a real problem, just an observation. How did the Omega J8005 perform on some of the other tasks it is meant to be able to do?

The results with making peanut butter were very good, trying out almond butter the results were no so good, it was a little dry but this could have been the condition of the almonds. Coffee was first class and, although there may have been a psychological element in play here, tasted better than that ground in the regular grinder. There are so many uses that the Omega J8005 can be put to it would be impossible to try them all out. It is an excellent juicer and, with some practice, will be able to process so much more.

Our Final Conclusion For The Omega J8005

The Omega J8005 has been in production for a few years now and it is an established favorite with users who like its ability to make juice out of virtually any fruit or vegetable, no matter how tough the leaves may be. 88% of over 600 users who have left a rating have given the Omega J8005 either 4 or 5 out of 5, the vast majority of them have given it a 5 star rating.

The size of the feed tube has been brought up as an area where it would be better being a little larger but Omega are restricted as the tube has to be small enough so that little hand, especially a child’s hand cannot fit down the tube. As a juicer, apart from some concerns about the feed tube which are easily overcome, the Omega J8005 is excellent. The attachments, some of which do need a little practice to perfect the technique make it a great juicer and then more besides.

Having a pasta extruder to make your homemade pasta in to various pasta styles using the dies that fit on the Omega J8005 can be very useful, as is the coffee grinder. The Omega J8005 is an ideal appliance for making high quality homemade juices.
