KitchenAid KFP1322ER Introduction

Slicing thin to think, soft to hard veggies and fruits is no biggie with the KitchenAid KFP1322ER 13 Cup food processor. This behemoth from KitchenAid is blessed with a powerful motor and proprietary cutting edge technology that makes it not just efficient but a breeze to use. Dual speed options with a pulse button lets you prepare recipes the way you want. And considering all the cool accessories you get along with the food processor and its 13 cup work bowl, there really is not much you cannot do with it. Knead perfect dough, slice, dice, shred and prepare spices or puree – do what you please and when you please!

Some stalwart mentions of the KFP1322ER include the ExactSlice System that lets you precisely control the blade exposure of the slicing disc with an external lever so as to control the thickness of slicing. This makes slicing a breeze and allows you to slice multiple ingredients together without having to open the latch. Next up, the UltraTight Seal that ensures against leaks. Be it liquid, solid or dough ingredients, nothing comes out from the work bowl once sealed and locked in place.

Our KitchenAid KFP1322ER Review

If your daily recipes depend heavily on the use of a food processor, then please heed our advice and look at some other model! The KitchenAid KFP1322ER while being super capable, is not a good heavy-duty model. It ought to be obvious considering it is cheaper than competing brands or models and yet offers a good 13 cup work bowl with extra-wide feed cute. However, if you dabble in the kitchen and aren’t a food processing radical who cannot make a dish without one, then this model is a perfect fit for you.

KitchenAid KFP1322ER

First off, the design is all plastic. Even the base is plastic though at first glance, it may not appear to be so, thanks to the Cherry Red paint all over. Moving on, some of the integral components too are plastic. For instance, the spindle that holds the blade and disc attachments, some of the locking latches and even the lever to adjust disc thickness. Couple all this with the fact that KitchenAid refuses to provide more than 1 Year of Warranty cover, makes it an iffy proposition for us. Thankfully their warranty is a No-Hassle Replacement promise so, you are at least safe for the first year of ownership.

At least, the external lever to change the slicing thickness works alright. Though, it does not make extra-slim cuts but you can regulate the thickness and precision just enough. In any other model or brand, to do this you had to remove the lid, take off the blade attachment and manually adjust the thickness. Then you have to put the entire ensemble back and resume slicing. With the ExactSlice System on this food processor, a simple lever does all that. Seals on the unit are pretty good too, though the latching and locking mechanism is a bit of a hassle and without perfect locking, the motor refuses to start. You will get used to this over time forming a habit.

Keep in mind, the KitchenAid KFP1322ER accessories lack the dicing kit, which can be procured extra. Also, all its accessories are dishwasher safe provided you wash them gently and only in the top rack. In our experience, we felt the KFP1322ER to be a fragile but rather capable instrument to have in the kitchen but only if you plan on occasionally using it. On a brighter note, it perfectly kneads nearly 3 cups of flour to make an entire loaf of bread.

KitchenAid KFP1322ER Specifications & Pros/Cons

Key Features

  • Pick your Speed with total of four buttons – Off/High/Low/Pulse. Unlike other food processors to stop the unit, you must press the Off button but if you wish to do a quick second long run then use the Pulse button.
  • ExactSlice feature lets you choose the thickness of each slice with an external lever. No more opening up the lid and changing the blade to adjust thickness – just keep adding your ingredients as you go fiddle with the external lever.
  • Massive feed chute with total of 3 options. You get the conventional large and small feed chute with pushers and an additional extra-wide feed chute capable of taking entire carrot and cucumbers!
  • Bright Cherry Red draws immediate attention and although the base is plastic as is many of the other components, it does not appear so from afar. Instead it looks majestic.
  • KitchenAid offers a complete 1-year warranty that includes hassle free replacement too.
  • Plastics everywhere makes this food processor a poor contender for the longest lasting kitchen appliance. It will eventually break down, especially in areas where plastic is the key component.
  • Dicing kit is not included in the packaging and this may be a bummer for those who rely heavily on a food processor to prepare for dishes.
  • Motor whines regardless of what you do, though it does not feel underpowered. However, kneading and other activities does take longer than with some other heavy-duty food processor.
  • Inexpensive – Considering the 13 cup large work bowl, assortment of attachments and numerous possibilities, the KFP1322ER is actually one of the affordable food processors in the market today. If only they included a dicing kit, then it truly would be complete and the most inexpensive too.
  • Simple & Intuitive – There is really nothing much to learn with this food processor as long as you get the hang of locking everything into place.
  • Extra Wide Feed – The top feed chute is actually the largest among all KitchenAid models. And it comes with 3 pushers. Drop in entire veggies or go slow with smaller bits of ingredients, the massive feed chute helps cut down preparation times.
  • External Thickness Lever – Slicing down ingredients to exact thickness with a food processor often requires practice and patience. With the external lever on this unit that adjusts the slice thickness, even a novice to food processing can get it right the first time.
  • Replacement Warranty – While it does not offer 5 or even 3 year warranties, it does come with an all-inclusive no-hassle replacement 1-year warranty. If anything happens to your unit or any accessory breaks over time, you can have it replaced in the first year free of charge.

Our Final Conclusion For The KitchenAid KFP1322ER

The KitchenAid KFP1322ER gave us a mixed feeling. Some of us felt that it was the ideal homeowner’s food processor while others found it lacking in a few areas. Fact is, it is the cheapest among many 13 to 14 cup food processors and has cutting edge features. However, the one-year warranty casts doubts on its longevity and plastic being the preferred material gives us further causes for worry. If you are not a heavy-duty user of food processors and just need one for times when you entertain a lot of guests or feel the need for some homemade bread, then the KFP1322ER is a decent choice to have in your kitchen.
