Cuisinart DLC-2007N Introduction

The first electric food processor was developed in Germany in 1946. At that time electric motors were so expensive that various attachments were developed to use the power of the processor – including a vacuum cleaner attachment. In 1973 the first electric food processor that was introduced to the US was a Magimix 1800, which was sold under the Cuisinart brand. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N is a far cry from the original food processor from 1946 (it can’t drive a vacuum cleaner for a start) but many of the principles remain the same – to have one unit that can perform a number of repetitive tasks in the kitchen.

The use of modern materials and electronics have made todays food processors far more efficient and versatile than their predecessors of 70 years ago.  The food processor has become an invaluable part of our kitchen appliances and makes us wonder how we ever lived without them. Imagine having to make a large coleslaw from scratch by hand. How long would it take and how mind numbing it would be having to slice and chop all those vegetables. Instead a food processor can chop all those vegetables nice and evenly in a few minutes. In addition to chopping and slicing a food processor will do many of the tasks that are commonly associated with stand mixers.

Tasks such as mixing cake batter or making dough for cookies and bread. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N will chop and puree fruit and vegetables, chop and puree meat, poultry and seafood, make bread and pizza dough, process nuts for nut butter. Slice or shred fruit, cheese or vegetables. It can make cake batter, cookie dough and custards, and so much more. It does this by using a variety of blades and slicing attachments all powered by a central shaft from the powerful motor.

Our Cuisinart DLC-2007N Review

The Cuisinart DLC-2007N has a 7 cup capacity yet still retains a compact footprint. It is only 13 inches x 9.5 inches and 14.5 inches high. It weighs 12.5 lbs. most of that weight being taken up by the powerful 600 watt motor. The clear work bowl is made of Lexan, a highly strong polycarbonate that is almost shatter proof and unaffected by either heat or cold (the F22 Raptor cockpit canopy is made of a similar material, as is some bullet proof glass).

Cuisinart-DLC-2007N Food Processor

The Lexan is BPA free. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N is a very strong and resilient food processor, so much so that there is a 3 year limited warranty on the entire machine and a 10 year unlimited warranty on the electric motor. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N has a large capacity, and where some other large capacity processors have small feed tubes, meaning that you still have to cut the food up in to smaller sizes before feeding them in to the processor, the Cuisinart DLC-2007N has an extra sized feed tube, 2 ½ times the size of most food processors, meaning that many foods can be fed directly in to the processor without the need to pre-cut.

In addition to the large feed tube there is a smaller one, with its own pusher. There is also a small hole to allow for the gradual adding of liquids, such as oil when making mayonnaise. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N comes with a set of 4 tools, a stainless steel slicing disc, a shredding disc, a blade that is suitable for both chopping and mixing and a dough blade. The fittings are standard on many Cuisinart food processors so the blades are interchangeable with other Cuisinart food processors and vice versa.

The extra-large feed hole may be considered a possible danger point as a child’s hand could easily fit in there. There is a safety interlock that when the pusher for the large feeder is removed the motor cuts out preventing the risk of any injury. It does temporarily pause the work while the feed tube is being loaded but the safety aspect is well worth the short interruption. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N comes with a very comprehensive guide to assembling the food processor and taking apart to clean.

In addition there are instructions and advice how to use each tools to obtain the best results. It does take some time to read but, especially for novices at food processing it is well worth skimming through before you start to use the Cuisinart DLC-2007N and reading in detail when you want to perform a particular processing job. The detail on the capacities is very useful, particularly as regards to bread and cookie dough. It is better to know before you start rather than start to make the mix and find out the Cuisinart DLC-2007N is over filled.

One piece of advice is particularly useful when slicing. The booklet recommends that that some cheeses and all meats are cold when slicing as this gives far better results. If this is to be your first food processor, when you start to use it, it is one appliance that you will wonder how you managed without it.

Our Final Conclusion For The Cuisinart DLC-2007N

The original Cuisinart food processor, the re-badged Magimix 1800, which was first introduced to the US market in 1973, is quite a different machine from the Cuisinart DLC-2007N, although the principle remains the same. The aim is to save time and effort by doing all those repetitive time consuming jobs in food preparation and processing. Over the past 40 years material, power control systems and electric motors have improved, resulting in the very efficient, highly durable and long lasting Cuisinart DLC-2007N, so much so that the Cuisinart DLC-2007N  has a 3 year limited warranty on the whole appliance and the electric motor a 10 year unlimited warranty.

There are not many foods that the Cuisinart DLC-2007N cannot process efficiently (soft cheese, in common with other food processors, being one it cannot slice). Due to these improvements in power and materials the Cuisinart DLC-2007N can be fitted with a very large feed tube that enables it to slice, shred and chop whole fruits and vegetables in one go. The Cuisinart DLC-2007N is highly rated by current users of it. On Amazon they give the Cuisinart DLC-2007N 4.5 stars out of 5 with almost 80% of over 310 users rating it either good or very good.
