Cuisinart DFP-14BCN Introduction

Featuring a brushed metal base with an infusion of black, the Cuisinart DFP-14BCN is a large capacity food processor that does a lot of things rather well. Want to make weeknight meals or plan weekend celebrations? Thanks to the 14 cup work bowl and its larger feed tube, you spend less time preparing and more time cooking. The feed chute can take whole vegetables and when used correctly requires absolutely no pre-cutting. This is possible thanks to a 720-watt heavy duty motor that never really struggles even when put to maximum load. By the way, instead of buttons on the base, this one has protruding levers that you just push down to get it operational. Much easier to work with and definitely longer lasting – though at first glance they really don’t appear to be levers. Pulsing with these levers is so much easier, we almost do all our preparations on the DFP-14BCN using the pulse feature.

Not only is the food processor durable from the outside but so are all its accessories, and not to mention dishwasher safe too. Other than the base, you can throw the rest into your dishwasher top rack. Talking of accessories, it ships with stainless steel shredding disc, slicing and chopping disc, a user manual, recipe book and spatula. If you need anything else and it is not included in the basic packaging, then you can find them on Cuisinart website or call in customer support. Attachments are not expensive for this model so keeping replacements won’t be a bad idea. By the way, Cuisinart offers a neat 3-year warranty on the food processor as a whole and 5 years on the motor alone.

Our Cuisinart DFP-14BCN Review

Cuisinart – the name itself is sufficient to draw attention. Ask your grandmother, she will vouch her remaining years on the brand itself. This image of Cuisinart continues till date even though majority of their models are manufactured today in China. While this has helped reduce the costs, it has not affected the longevity of their line-up all that much. Same is the case with the Cuisinart DFP-14BCN.

Unlike its older siblings, this one features a rather sleek and attractive body. Yup, it is a looker and we felt it had to stay out in the open at all times. Why would you want to hide something so attractive and sleek? Brushed metal stainless steel base with black accentuations give it that modernistic appeal. But, not to overdo things, its frame is slender and more vertical thus still retaining the conventional food processor image.

Moving away from the amazing looks, let’s recap on its performance. First off, the motor will not disappoint you. 720 Watts does everything splendidly. Pulse all you wish, go crazy with dough kneading or try shredding cheese in bulk amounts for your next house party – the motor handles it all without even breaking a sweat. However, there are a few nagging complaints. For instance, it will not start if you have not aligned the entire thing correctly and locked all components into place. What we would have hugely appreciated, is if Cuisinart gave latches and locks that made an audible sound when in place. Right now, you literally have to fumble around and align the entire ensemble up. The only way you know it is aligned is when the motor spins to life. Even worse, try pressing a button too many times in the hopes of getting it to work and the unit will shut down for 5 minutes! Took us nearly three days to practice and get the setup perfect so we need not worry about this again. Why Cuisinart? Why make something so amazing difficult to operate?

Thankfully, the moment you learn how to setup the unit, there really is nothing that you cannot achieve with this food processor. The Cuisinart DFP-14BCN kneads rather well, even shreds, slices and does anything you can imagine. And if you do not find the right attachment accompanying a brand new DFP-14BCN then you can order it up immediately from Cuisinart. Most of their accessories happen to be interchangeable so if you have an older variant, try its discs or blades – they may just work.
