The Breville BFP800XL surpassed all of our expectations. A true favorite with consumers all across the United States, and now our favorite Food Processor of all time. The 1200-Watt motor is also extremely powerful!
A total of 8 different attachments come included with the BFP800XL, which ultimately help in prepping for blending, mixing, mincing, kneading, grinding and much more. In fact, you can manage 24 slicing variations with this food processor letting you decide on the thickness between 0.3mm to 8mm. Accessories include a mini blade, kneading blade, universal micro serrated S blade, French fry cutting disc, reversible shredding disc and whisking disc.
This food processor also comes with two bowls, one is a 2.5 cup mini bowl and the other is a 16 cup large processing bowl. The larger bowl is great for large servings or kneading while the smaller bowl is great for preparing sauce or crushing nuts.Designers of the Breville BFP800XL clearly understood the inherent problem with any food processors lies in the fact that food never is of a uniform nature and so making a machine that can deal with different kinds of ingredients requires the processor to slice, dice, and grind.
The unique solution seen in the Breville Sous Chef is the use of a wider feed chute with a unique base design. The chute lets you add in sliced veggies of every shape and size while the blades and discs help in getting the required results. Because of all the different discs and blades the Breville BFP800XL comes with, users can manage a variety of tasks.
Its not mentioned anywhere on Amazon or other retail sites, but the manual for the Breville BFP-800XL actually states that it has a 1200 Watt motor. This is exactly what many restaurants use, and those who have seen such a powerful processor in action can vouch for the magnitude of tasks it can perform. In our experience, its not the motor that makes a food processor stand out rather the bowl design, construction and the variety of blade attachments it comes with. Having tried out both the bowls and all its attachments, we feel that the bowls will last a good one year or more after which it will need replacing. And as for the attachments, they require constant upgrades as the edges start wearing out.
Something that really caught our attention was the number of safety features found in this machine. Frankly, the motor is protected against accidental startup. Unless the shoot pusher, lid and bowl are perfectly fit into place, the motor isn’t going to start. The plug has a finger hole so that you can yank it out in case of an emergency. The manual also informs to keep the blades and attachments dry at all times. The Breville BFP-800XL comes with an accessory box and a cleaning brush too. Out of all the blades, the variable slicing disc is probably the most versatile by design. Its got a total of 24 different thickness settings. On its own, it can be used to whip cream, egg batter and slice and dice. Basically, this one disc will do everything that you need. However, the other attachments are just as good if not versatile in operation. We saved the variable disc for later when the other blades start wearing out, this way we won’t have to invest into a new set of attachments.
So, the most impressive feature for us is the Breville BFP-800XL food processor’s wide mouth feed chute. At 5.5 inch it is wider than most food processors. This lets you add in most veggies and ingredients without chopping them up. Plus, the S blade and variable blade are the best attachments available in the market today. What we did not appreciate was the small 2.5 cup bowl that hardly has any use. Unless you are making a little bit of sauce, its never going to be used. A 3 or 4 cup bowl would have been better.
A total of 8 blade attachments, a 1200 Watt motor and a wide feed chute help to make the Breville BFP-800XL a potent food processor. Its got everything necessary to help you out in the kitchen and plenty of unique design elements that extend its life as well as make your life easier. If you really don’t need a food processor, the Breville BFP-800XL is still a good investment simply for its variable disc and S blade.
These two attachments are truly universal by design performing plenty of tasks on their own. We enjoyed working with this food processor and trying out all its capabilities. What really should catch your attention though is the powerful 1200-watt motor. This is by far one of the most powerful consumer graded food processors, and that’s why we’ve labelled it as the best food processor of 2014.
Without a doubt, no other consumer model comes close to the sheer raw power of the BFP800XL – and it’s our champion for that reason alone.
