Tranquil seems to be an uncommon word which is not being used very often. The synonyms of this word are the one's which are used most of the times.

I find that the noun "tranquility" has a regular use in contrast to the adjective "tranquil". You can find it in music lyrics for instance. I believe there is also a "sea of tranquility"? If im not mistaken its on the moon.
